Side Projects

Garden Gate

During the summer I did a side project which was refreshing my family's gate, I began by taking the gate off the wall and began sanding and clean the side bits first to get rid of all the rust it gathered over the course of 10 years. once they were cleaned I  sprayed painted them black to give them a clean and fresh look.

After both side parts of the gate were done I then began with the actual gate, with the help of my family we got the whole gate sanded and cleaned in two days making it ready for me to begin to spray painting it all black, then adding the detail to give it a fresh look.

I wanted to give the thistle in the middle a shape to it but make it abstract as well, the hint of purple of the top of it brings it to life, at the top of the gate there is a Charles Rennie Mackintosh symbol, to help bring it out I painted it a close shade of purple that he would use in his work.

Once I finished adding the detail I put on a setting stray on it to make sure it won't come off by the Scottish weather.
